Together we will be exploring the origin and development of the Olympics. How many of you watched the London 2012 Olympics? As you were watching these competitions, did any of you wonder how and why this worldwide event began? Well, as a class we will travel through time, and create a timeline for the Olympics to better understand its development. I encourage all of you to start reading about the Ancient Olympics and come up with question so that your classmates and I may be able to answer based on what we have read. Ultimately, I would like to see all the ideas and information everybody is getting from their personal exploration on the Ancient Olympics. So let's get started!

Great introduction! I know that everyone was glued to the tv screens during last summers olympics and the history that was made with the athletes. It will be very interesting to see what can be learned from the Ancient olympics and see how the game have evolved into present day. Looking forward to reading your next post.
ReplyDeleteThank you Edwin, my goal was to start off with something "catchy" to grab the attention of students and get them excited about the Ancient Olympics. Also I threw in that question about them watching the Olympics so students can begin to form connections, and build on their prior knowledge.
